"Sam" lived in the basement of our house. He
stood 4 feet 6 inches tall, 2 feet 6 inches wide, and 3 feet deep.
Burning home-heating oil, Sam consumed roughly
500 gallons per month, at about 4-5 gallons per hour.
That's is the equivalent of driving a full-size car
at 60 mph for about 125 hours. A little pricey
at $1.45 per gallon!!!
"Sam" was named by Teresa the first week she lived
in the house while Bill was making his life-changing journey across our
country,
most of it in a blizzard. Sam stood for
"Samson", strong and constant.
He was the source of warmth and hot water when it
was frigid outside.
When the boiler fired, it created a low rumble throughout
the house which was a most reassuring and
comforting sound. "Sam" provided us with heat
(lots of it!!) through the iron-pipe radiators in the rooms and hot water
for washing.
Unfortunately, he grew old and weary and has been replaced
by a new
Burnham V830 Oil-fired boiler which is much more efficient.
Meet
"D". D stands for Delilah.
